How SMS Opt-In Works
For customers calling a business that uses RingBack.
The opt-in call-to-action
Call the business, then press 1 when prompted. The keypress is the opt-in.
When you call a business that uses RingBack and no one answers, you'll hear a short message: “Press 1 to receive a text message follow-up about your call. Message and data rates may apply.” Pressing 1 is your explicit agreement to receive conversational text messages from that business in response to your call. If you don't press 1, you'll never receive a text — no exceptions.
What happens after you call
- You call the business. If someone answers, you just talk — no texts involved.
- If no one answers, you're asked to press 1 for a text follow-up. This is the explicit opt-in step.
- Press 1, and you receive a text within seconds asking what you need help with.
- You reply naturally. A couple of quick questions help the business understand your request, and then they follow up with you directly.
Your choices
- Reply STOP at any time to opt out — you will never be texted again.
- Reply HELP for the business's contact information and opt-out instructions.
- Message and data rates may apply.
